What Are Inbound SMS Messages?

Inbound SMS messages are texts initiated by contacts to your business. Inbound messages include replies to your outbound texts or any message where a customer reaches out first. The main goal of inbound SMS is for businesses to interact with customers to increase engagement and deepen customer relationships.

Examples of Inbound Messaging

Inbound SMS is typically a two-way conversation between a customer and a business representative. Customers often reach out with inbound SMS messages about the following subjects:

Customer Support
Customers can text their inquiries directly to your business. SMS lets your customer support team quickly reply, set up auto replies, and personalize messages to improve customer service.
Feedback
Get customers to text feedback to your business by prompting replies to surveys and asking follow-up questions. Feedback and insights help improve customer satisfaction.
Scheduling
Customers can text your business to schedule appointments or demos. Your team can respond directly with available times. Scheduling through SMS provides convenience for customers and enhances the customer experience.
Payment Notifications
Many businesses use recurring texts for payment reminders. You can send monthly rent reminders, credit card reminders, or other recurring payment requests.
Keyword Opt-ins
Encourage customers to opt into your SMS program by prompting them to text in a keyword. This opt-in method is a quick and easy way to get consent to send SMS messages to customers.
Interactive Campaigns
To boost customer engagement, make your SMS campaigns interactive by asking customers to reply to enter contests or polls.

How to Manage Inbound SMS Messages on Textedly’s Platform

Now, we’ll walk through how Textedly users can easily and conveniently manage their free inbound SMS messages on the Textedly platform.

Viewing Inbound SMS Messages

Inbound SMS messages will appear in your Textedly Inbox. View your inbound SMS messages by clicking on the Inbox tab located on the left-hand side of the dashboard. Your inbound SMS messages don’t only have to come from your SMS marketing subscribers.

You can also integrate your inbox with your other business platforms like Shopify, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and more!

Replying to Inbound SMS Messages

You can respond directly to your customers’ inbound SMS messages through Textedly’s Inbox. If you need to add reminders for responses, you can even add notes to your messages that are only visible to you.

To leave a note, write your note in the message box of your thread with the customer. Then, click "Save as Note", and your note will save. Notes will show up as yellow to differentiate from your visible replies to customers.

Setting up SMS Message Reply Alerts

Textedly users can set up alerts to be notified when they receive SMS messages from customers via email.

To set up your SMS message reply alerts:

1. Click on your profile in the bottom left corner of your dashboard and then select Account Settings from the menu.

2. Once on this page, scroll all the way down to the bottom and you will see Alerts. Click the Edit Contact Details button and switch the toggle for the "Inbox alerts are" from Disabled to Enabled.

3. Next, add your email address in the "Alerts go to" box. You can add as many email addresses as you like. Add a comma and space between each email address if you include multiple.
